Mandla Mandela - speaking in Aberdeen (Oct 14th)

Monday 14th of October, 7pm - University of Aberdeen, King’s College Conference Centre, AB24 3SW

Booking required: https://dismantling-apartheid.eventbrite.co.uk

We are proud to host Zwelivelile Mandela, tribal chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council and the grandson of Nelson Mandela.

On the 40th anniversary of the Freedom of the City being given to Nelson and Winnie Mandela, Zwelivelile will talk both about the defeat of apartheid in South Africa, as well as a topic close to his heart: justice and freedom for Palestine.

The connection between South Africa and Palestine has been heightened in recent years, with the likes of Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International explicitly calling out Israeli apartheid. Over the past 11 months, Israel’s genocidal campaign has seen a huge growth of Palestine solidarity movements around the world. Despite the strength of feeling and action at a grassroots level, almost every national government has watched on by whilst Israel’s barbaric attacks on children, journalists, schools and hospitals continue. South Africa has been one of the rare exceptions, making the case to the International Court of Justice that Israel’s actions amount to genocide.

Join us to hear from Zwelivelile Mandela on the parallels between apartheid in South Africa and Palestine, and the crucial role of the international solidarity movement in both cases.
