Solidarity with Palestine, Aberdeen march and rally, 23rd May 2021
Hundreds of citizens of conscience and representatives of all sections of civil society in Aberdeen have once again gathered to express their outrage to the latest onslaught of Palestinians and human right abuses in Gaza and the West Bank. Against the backdrop of continued systematic ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by the Zionist state of Israel, emboldened by impunity and complicity of western economies including the UK, the people of Aberdeen have joined millions around the world to say ‘enough is enough’.
As the crowd of supporters marched down Nelson Street and King Street, cars driving past cheered and youths jumped off the bus to join the march at the chant of ‘Free Free Palestine’.
The crowd then re-assembled for a rally of inspiring speakers in Marischal Square. Scottish Palestinian, Ibrahim spoke about the horrors experienced by his own family and friends in Gaza and recounted the names of the 66 children killed during the latest Israeli massacre, which saw the Israeli army kill at least 232 Palestinians and injure thousands more.
Mustafa read out a moving poem called “Gaza’s Child”, Rema recited a Palestinian song, “Mawal”, Sanaa, Yasmine, Jonathan, Mariam, as well as Molana Ghulam Hurr Shabbiri from Glasgow, spoke about the injustices perpetrated against the Palestinians - they called for an end to arms sales to Israel and the funding to companies complicit in human right abuses in Palestine.
